This curriculum will introduce students to the professional requirements of a Histology Assistant. Histology Assistants typically work in hospitals, clinics and laboratories assisting pathologists, pathologists’ assistants and histology technicians to prepare and analyze tissue specimens from patients in order to diagnose and treat diseases. This program will review human anatomy emphasizing the recognition, composition and function of organ systems including skeletal, nervous, circulatory, endocrine and reproductive system tissues.
Students will also review Histo techniques such as tissue processing and an introduction to basic theories and practices of Histo technology including laboratory safety, fixation, routine staining, accessioning, slide distribution, frozen section & fine needle aspirate procedures, operation and maintenance of lab equipment.
